Don’t go there
I have a few travel books. I don’t own any don’t-travel books. Thus my curiosity:
Well the title says it all. I haven’t read it, but it’s not exactly a Christmas gift sort of book is it?
Especially not if your friends or family live in a certain town in Virginia. It seems a couple of Amazon’s reviewers for the book aren’t happy that Ashland, VA is in the book. From what I have read, there is something mentioned in the book about Ashland claiming to be ‘the center of the universe.’
I did a quick check in google by typing “Ashland, VA” and the first result is this website. The town does seem to get its money worth out of this slogan so at least the author did not pull this from one obscure visitor’s pamphlet. I’m sure Ashland is a nice place full of nice people all the same.
If you want to read more of the drama, there are many on-going comments on Peter Greenberg’s page. I’m sure the author isn’t minding the extra traffic.
